UARK Gmail: Mobile Setup

WAIT: Make sure you've set your Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail in Password Manager and are connected to a secure Wi-Fi network before beginning UARK Gmail setup.

IT Services supports a number of mobile devices including iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows Phone 7. Limited support is available for Androids due to the variety of operating systems available for these devices. IT Services does not support Blackberry.

iPhone and iPad Setup

  1. Open Settings. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

  2. Tap Add Account. Tap Google.

  3. Enter your full name. In the Email field, enter your UARK Gmail address (username@email.uark.edu).

  4. In the Password field, enter your Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail.

  5. Tap Next. Tap Save.

UARK Gmail users who wish to sync server-side contacts on their mobile devices, use the following setup instructions:

  1. Open Settings. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

  2. Tap Add Account. Tap Microsoft Exchange.

  3. In the Email field, enter your UARK Gmail address (username@email.uark.edu). 

  4. In the Password field, enter your Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail.

  5. Tap Next. If you receive the Unable to Verify Certificate warning, tap Cancel.

  6. In the Server field, enter m.google.com. Leave the Domain field blank.

  7. In the Username field, enter your UARK Gmail address (username@email.uark.edu).

  8. Tap Next. Select the Google services (Mail, Calendar and Contacts) you want to sync.

  9. Select the Keep on my iPhone (or iPad) option when prompted to keep all existing contacts and calendars. This will also allow you to sync with your computer via iTunes.

Troubleshooting Note: If you get an error during the setup process, follow the steps below to make sure IMAP is enabled for your UARK Gmail mailbox.

  1. Log into email.uark.edu with your UARK username and password.

  2. Click the Settings icon in the upper right and select Mail settings.

  3. Click Forwarding and Pop/IMAP.

  4. Click Enable IMAP. Click Save Changes.

  5. Repeat the setup instructions.

Android Setup

  1. From the Applications menu, tap the Email application.

  2. On the Your accounts page, tap Next.

  3. Enter your UARK Gmail address (username@email.uark.edu).

  4. Enter your Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail. Tap Next.

  5. Enter a nickname for your mailbox and set the name to be displayed in your outgoing messages. Tap Done.

To verify your settings from the Inbox view, tap Menu and Account Settings.

Incoming settings
IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
Security type: SSL (always)

Outgoing settings
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Security type: SSL (always)

Troubleshooting Note: If you get an error during the setup process, follow the steps below to make sure IMAP is enabled for your UARK Gmail mailbox.

  1. Log into email.uark.edu with your UARK username and password.

  2. Click the Settings icon in the upper right and select Mail settings.

  3. Click Forwarding and Pop/IMAP.

  4. Click Enable IMAP. Click Save Changes.

  5. Repeat the setup instructions.

Windows Phone 7 Setup

  1. On Start, flick left to the App list and tap Settings. Tap Email + accounts.

  2. Tap Add an account. Tap Google.

  3. Tap the Email address box and enter your UARK Gmail address (username@email.uark.edu).

  4. Tap the Password box enter your Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail.

  5. Tap Sign in.

Your UARK Gmail messages and contacts will be synced to your phone.

Troubleshooting Note: If you get an error during the setup process, follow the steps below to make sure IMAP is enabled for your UARK Gmail mailbox.

  1. Log into email.uark.edu with your UARK username and password.

  2. Click the Settings icon in the upper right and select Mail settings.

  3. Click Forwarding and Pop/IMAP.

  4. Click Enable IMAP. Click Save Changes.

  5. Repeat the setup instructions.

    These are the worst instructions. This does not work at all. I've tried many times and I get the same error message that my password is incorrect when it isn't.

      Chase, I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble connecting your device to UARK Gmail. Please make sure you are using your Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail instead of your regular UARK password. If you continue to receive the error, contact the Help Desk at 479-575-2905 or create a request for support at askit.uark.edu.

            I have set up a new password for my IMAP/Mobile, properly enabled it on my account, and made sure to use the proper SSL, and I still receive the error message of "Incorrect username or password. Please try again."

    Hello,
    I can receive emails but I can't send any email to anyone...All the emails I hit send go to "outbox" and never be sent.

      Thuy, I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble sending email. First, try removing your UARK Gmail account from the app and then re-adding it using the instructions above.
