Report Abusive Email and Expand Headers

When you receive abusive email such as phishing scams or spam, report it to abuse@uark.edu. Learn more about recognizing phishing scams and spam.

UARK Gmail (email.uark.edu)

When reading email in web-based UARK Gmail, you can report abusive email to both abuse@uark.edu and the Google security team by following these instructions:

  1. Select the spam email or abusive message.

  2. Click the Report spam button above your mailbox.

You can also report spam or abusive email with expanded headers. Expand headers and forward to abuse@uark.edu by following these instructions:

  1. Open the message.

  2. Click the down arrow next to Reply. Select Show Original.

  3. Highlight the header information and copy.

  4. Return to the spam email or abusive message and click Forward. 

  5. Paste the header information into the body of the email.

  6. Enter abuse@uark.edu in the To: field. Click Send.

Exchange Online (outlook.office.com)

An add-in is required before you are able to access expanded header information in the Office 365 Outlook Web App (OWA). You only have to install this add-in once.

  1. Click the Settings gear icon in the top right. Under the header Your apps settings, click Mail.

  2. From the menu on the left, click Manage add-ins under General.

  3. Click the plus icon (+) and select Add from office store.

  4. In the search box, enter message header analyzer. Select the add-in and click Add.

  5. Confirm that you want to install. Follow the instructions to report abusive email.

To report abusive email in the Office 365 Outlook Web App (OWA), forward it to abuse@uark.edu with expanded headers.

  1. Double-click the abusive or spam message to open it in a new window.

  2. Click the MessageHeaderAnalyzer link above the body of the message.

  3. Click the Original headers link. Copy the text. 

  4. Click Forward and paste the header information into the message.

  5. Enter abuse@uark.edu in the To: field. Click Send.

Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016 (Windows)

To report abusive email, forward it to abuse@uark.edu with expanded headers.

  1. Double-click the message to open it in a new window.

  2. Click the File tab, Properties.

  3. Highlight the information in the Internet headers field and copy. Click Close.

  4. Click Forward and paste the header information into the message.

  5. Enter abuse@uark.edu in the To: field. Click Send.

Outlook 2011 and Outlook 2016 (Mac)

To report abusive email, forward it to abuse@uark.edu with expanded headers.

  1. Right-click or control-click on the message in the inbox.

  2. Select View Source.

  3. Highlight the expanded header information and copy.

  4. Click Forward and paste the information into the message.

  5. Enter abuse@uark.edu in the To: field. Click Send.

macOS Mail (OS X Mail)

To report abusive email, forward it to abuse@uark.edu with expanded headers.

  1. Double-click the message to open it in a new window.

  2. Select View, Message, All Headers from the menu bar.

  3. Highlight the header information and copy.

  4. Click Forward and paste the header information into the message.

  5. Enter abuse@uark.edu in the To: field. Click Send.
