Email Troubleshooting

IT Services provides limited troubleshooting information for UARK Gmail, Outlook and OS X Mail.

Changing Your Saved Password

Any time your password is changed in Password Manager, you will receive an error in your email application. Exchange users are prompted automatically to update their passwords. UARK Gmail users must update their passwords manually.

Outlook 2010 and 2013 (Windows)

  1. Open Outlook. Click the Account Settings button and select Account Settings.

  2. Select your UARK email mailbox. Click Change.

  3. Enter your new password in the Password field. Click Next.
Note: If you are a student using an older version of Outlook, enter your new Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail.

  4. Close the Connection Test window. Click Finish. Click Close.

Outlook 2011 and 2016 (Mac)

  1. Open Outlook. Click Tools and Accounts.

  2. Select your UARK email mailbox.

  3. Enter your new password in the Password field. Click Close.
Note: If you are a student using an older version of Outlook, enter your new Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail.

OS X Mail

  1. Open Mail. Open the Mail menu and select Preferences.

  2. Click the Accounts tab and select your UARK Gmail Account.

  3. In the Password field, enter your new UARK password.
Note: If you are a student using an older version of Mail, enter your new Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail.

  4. Click the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop-down menu and select Edit SMTP Server List.

  5. Select the smtp.gmail.com. Click Advanced.

  6. In the Password field, enter your new UARK password. Click OK.
Note: If you are a student using an older version of Mail, enter your new Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail.

  7. Close the Accounts window and click Save.

Suggested Contacts

Outlook 2010 (Windows)

By default, Outlook 2010 automatically adds recipients to a Suggested Contacts Address Book. To disable this new feature:

  1. Click the File tab, Options, Contacts.

  2. Uncheck the box next to "Automatically create Outlook contacts for recipients that do not belong to an Outlook Address Book."

To no longer display Suggested Contacts as an email Address Book:

  1. From Contacts, right-click Suggested Contacts, and select Properties. Click the Outlook Address Book tab.

  2. Uncheck the box next to "Show this folder as an email Address Book."

Import/Export Wizard

Outlook 2010 and 2013 (Windows)

  1. Click the File tab. Click Open. In Outlook 2013, click Open & Export.

  2. Select "Import to launch the Import and Export Wizard." In Outlook 2013, select "Import/Export to launch the Import/Export Wizard."

Open Another User's Folder

Outlook 2010 and 2013 (Windows)

  1. Click the File tab. Click Open. In Outlook 2013, click Open & Export.

  2.  Click Other User's Folder.

  3. Enter the UARK username for the account you wish to open.

  4. Select the desired folder from the drop-down menu. Click OK.

If the folder you have permission to access is not listed as an option in the drop-down menu, or you want the folder to be available when you launch Outlook, add the other person's mailbox to your list of folders:

  1. Click the File tab. Click the Account Settings button and select Account Settings.

  2. Select your Exchange account. Click Change.

  3. Click More Settings. Click the Advanced tab.

  4. Under the Mailboxes heading, click Add.

  5. Enter the UARK username for the account you wish to open. Click OK.

Send Email to Yourself

The following instructions do not apply to students with both UARK Gmail and Exchange mailboxes (for example, graduate assistants).

UARK Gmail (email.uark.edu)

When you send email to yourself in UARK Gmail, the message is sent to the All Mail folder instead of the Inbox. To make email sent to yourself automatically appear in your inbox:

  1. Log into UARK Gmail at email.uark.edu with your UARK username and password.

  2. Click the Settings gear icon and select Settings. Click Accounts.

  3. In the "Send mail as" section, select "Add another email address you own."

  4. In the Email address field, enter your UARK email address (username@uark.edu). Click Next Step.

  5. Enter your UARK password. Click Add Account. A confirmation email will be sent.

  6. Open the confirmation email. Click the confirmation link or verify the confirmation code.

Problems Setting Up Email in an Application

UARK Gmail (email.uark.edu)

If you get an error setting up UARK Gmail on a desktop or mobile email application, make sure IMAP is enabled for your UARK Gmail mailbox:

  1. Log into email.uark.edu with your UARK username and password.

  2. Click the Settings icon in the upper right and select Settings.

  3. Click Forwarding and Pop/IMAP.

  4. Click Enable IMAP. Click Save Changes.

  5. Repeat UARK Gmail setup instructions.

If you continue to have trouble setting up UARK Gmail in an application, make sure you have created your Mobile/IMAP password for UARK Gmail.

My email got more than 2000 junk mails these days, how can I deal with this problem? BTW, I can not send emails because "you weren't recognized as a valid sender. The most common reason for this is that your email address is suspected of sending spam and it's no longer allowed to send messages outside of your organization". Would you please help me? Many thanks in advance!
