UA Mail: Account Maintenance

The content and maintenance of a user's electronic mailbox is the user's responsibility.

Quota Information

Your UA Mail account is allocated a certain amount of disk space for email storage. Default quotas (negotiable upon request via askit.uark.edu) vary based on status:

  • Students - 100 MB

  • Staff - 300 MB

  • Faculty - 500 MB

When 100% of this space is used, you cannot send or receive email, and email must be deleted. Mail sent to your account when it is full will bounce back to the sender.

Currently, the university email server is set to automatically warn users when they are approaching their quota limit. There will be an automatic warning sent to the user; however, this warning will only reach those with an IMAP connection. Check your software settings to see if you are using IMAP or POP. Note: UA Mail and Pine have no option for POP services.

Log into UA Mail to check your email quota near the top of the screen just below the menu bar.

Email Account Management

  • UA Mail keeps your email on the server, including copies of saved and sent messages. To avoid going over quota, IT Services recommends that you:

    • Delete messages in your Inbox or folders or move them to your local drive often.

    • Delete sent messages or move them to your local drive.

    • Delete attachments or move them to your local drive.

  • If you use a Trash mailbox on the server, be aware that those deleted messages are still on the server, taking up your quota. Periodically clean out the Trash folder by right-clicking the Trash folder and clicking Empty folder. Click OK to confirm.

  • If you are over (or near) quota, to find your largest files, view the size and number of messages in each folder.

  • If you download email from the server to your local drive, delete the mail from the server after it is downloaded.

  • If you are forwarding your UARK email to another account, delete copies of your email on the server. When forwarding, uncheck the POP3/IMAP4 box. To forward your mail, see the UA Mail: Email Forwarding and Vacation Message Tech Article.

  • If you are subscribed to a Listserv mailing list and will not be checking your email frequently, send an email to listserv@listserv.uark.edu with the command "set listname nomail." To restart your mail, send the command "set listname mail" (where "listname" is the actual name of the mailing list).

I will be graduating this summer semester. What will happen to my email account? I was wondering if I can still retain my email account even after my graduation?

I'm unable to print anything because I'm apparently over my quota. How do I add more money so I can print?. This is probably not the right place to find this out but if you have a place I can go, that would be great. Thanks.

Christopher, if you have exceeded your quota, the cost required to print is displayed. To pay for printing, use a copy card or your University ID card to use your Razorbucks account at the release station. Check the status of your quota at http://printsmart.uark.edu. For more information on printing in computer labs, see http://print.uark.edu.

You can request that your UARK username be changed by going to http://askit.uark.edu. Create a case and include three possible choices in order of preference. There is a minimum of three characters and a maximum of eight characters for UARK usernames.
