Network: MAC Addresses

A MAC address is also referred to as the network adapter address, physical address, Ethernet ID, or hardware address. The MAC address is represented as a 12 character hexadecimal expression, for example, 00-00-C0-8E-A1-DE.

Windows

  1. Log into Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.

  2. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt.

  3. At the C: prompt type ipconfig  /all and press Enter. There must be a space before the switch /all. The MAC address is labeled as "Physical Address."

Mac OS X

  1. Log into Mac OS X.

  2. Open the System Preferences from the Apple Menu or the Dock.

  3. In the System Preferences box, click the Network icon.

  4. Select your network connection from the list on the left. Click Advanced.
