Mailing Lists: Listserv

Create a Mailing List

Request a new electronic mailing list using the Listserv Request form. You will be notified by IT Services when your request has been approved or denied (allow approximately 15 working days). Approval requires that the list serves a distinct purpose associated with the university's goals and doesn't duplicate a list already in existence. The following individuals or groups are eligible to manage a Listserv:

  • Faculty and staff members with an approval signature from a sponsoring department head

  • Registered Student Organizations (RSO) who have requested and gained approval through the Center for Leadership & Community Involvement

  • ARKnet or community organizations associated with the University of Arkansas

List owners can subscribe to the UALIST-L list for Listserv list owners at the University of Arkansas.

Listserv Commands

Listserv users can manage their subscriptions by sending commands to the Listserv server via email messages. Send commands for all Listservs to listserv@listserv.uark.edu, not to an actual mailing list address.

  • Send all commands to Listserv from the email address you used to subscribe.

  • Leave the subject line blank in a Listserv command message.

  • Do not include a signature file or any text other than the command itself.

  • When including a list name, enter the portion of the Listserv address that comes before @listserv.uark.edu, for example, UARKList.

In the body of the message, use one of the following commands:

Replace the word "listname" with the name of a Listserv mailing list and the word "fullname" with your full name, for example, "subscribe UARKList Jane Doe."
