DNS: Find a DNS Entry

With an active internet connection, you can find the DNS entry for your computer or site by following the instructions below.

Windows

  1. Click Start, All Programs.

  2. Click Accessories and open Command Prompt.

  3. At the C: prompt, enter "nslookup example.yourdomain.edu" or "nslookup xx.xx.xx.xx" and press Enter. There must be a space after nslookup.

Mac

  1. Open the Finder and click Applications.

  2. Double-click (or expand) Utilities. Open Terminal.

  3. At the prompt, enter "nslookup example.yourdomain.edu" or "nslookup xx.xx.xx.xx" and press Enter. There must be a space after nslookup.
