BASIS: Printing

Selected items, such as reports, can be printed from a BASIS session using a networked printer or a printer attached to a networked computer. More information about printing from BASIS can be found at the Printing from BASIS page on the BASIS website.

Networked Printer Setup

  1. Verify your printer meets the BASIS guidelines. See the BASIS: Printer Requirements Tech Article.

  2. Connect the BASIS compatible printer to a live network outlet.

  3. Print a configuration page following the instructions in the manual for your model printer.

  4. Find the printer's MAC address in order to obtain a DHCP entry. For an external print server, the MAC address should be printed on a label on the bottom of the box.

Register Your Printer

Depending on the network configuration in your building, you will use the new Network Registration System or the Old DHCP System to register your printer. See Network Subnets to determine if you are on the new Network Registration System or the Old DHCP System.

New Network Registration System

  1. Register your printer using the Network Registration Page. Take note of the preassigned DNS entry.

  2. Submit an AskIT case requesting a BASIS print setup. Enter Network as the subject and provide the following information as the Description:

    • Printer Domain Name

    • Contact name

    • Phone number

    • Budgetary Unit (4-digit dept code)

    • Email address

    • Location of the printer (building and room)

    • Brand and model of the printer

The average turnaround time on this type of setup is approximately 10 working days. After the printer is set up, test pages will be sent to verify functionality.

Old DHCP System

  1. Create an AskIT case. Enter Network as the subject and "DHCP entry for printer" as the Description.

  2. When you receive confirmation that your DHCP entry has been made, make note of the IP Address in order to request a domain name (DNS) for the printer.

  3. Log into the Domain Name Registration Request and request a DNS name for the printer using the online form.

  4. When you have received confirmation that the DNS entry for your printer has been made, submit an AskIT case requesting a BASIS print setup. Enter Network in the subject line and provide the following information in the Description:

    • Printer Domain Name

    • Contact name

    • Phone number

    • Budgetary Unit (4-digit dept code)

    • Email address

    • Location of the printer (building and room)

    • Brand and model of the printer

The average turnaround time on this type of setup is approximately 10 working days. After the printer is set up, test pages will be sent to verify functionality.

I guess we can delete the "Old DHCP System" part of this, now.
